We were honored to see one of our dear friends and a previous resident this past Sunday. She was in town for her youngest son's wedding. This was an answer to a prayer spoken back in 2017 when Tisha entered our housing program. At that time neither of her sons would allow her into their lives.
Tisha's life, before coming to the Bridge, had taken turns that she had never desired or expected. After marrying at a young age and having her two boys, she suddenly found herself going through a divorce. The depression and hurt from the divorce sent her into a couple of different toxic relationships where she was introduced to drugs.
She was able to get clean for a while and find her way to our ministry around the same time that her youngest son was graduating from high school. She was not invited to the graduation, so we managed to help her watch the graduation from a computer. Our prayer then was that one day these relationships would be restored.
After leaving our housing, we worked with Tisha as mentors to help her through several other difficult times. Tisha's story had several twists and turns. She finally kicked the drug addiction and was on a good path, but realized that she had never dealt with her attraction to toxic and abusive men.
She decided to relocate and get a fresh start. She moved to Kansas City and got a job. Things were looking up. Communication with her sons was increasing and they were letting her into their lives. After one last round with a toxic relationship, she finally decided enough was enough. She committed to no more relationships with men until she did some work on herself.
Today, Tisha talks to her sons every week and she has two beautiful grandkids! She comes to Tennessee several times a year to see all of them. She is working two jobs at a factory and as a Sioux Chef in a restaurant. She has a church family who supports her and in her own words "she is finally learning to love herself."
Yesterday, Tisha gave her testimony in the morning service at Refuge church here in Union City. Then she left to experience a huge life event with her youngest son. Not only was she invited to his wedding, but she got to enjoy a beautiful mother-and-son dance. It was the icing on the cake of this incredible journey of healing.
Tisha has successfully moved "from where she was to where she needs to be"!
