We first met Kim in 2022 when she came to church with a friend. She had been living with this friend for a while. Life had led her to a place where she was paying off debt but didn't have enough income to pay the rest of her bills. Kim was doing her best but was not making ends meet.
Kim found out about our Faith & Finances class and decided to give it a try. In class, she soon discovered that she had gotten into debt because she did not have all the information about some loans. Once she learned about interest and predatory lending, Kim was ready to get her finances back on track. Over the next six months, she committed to meeting with us once a week for financial accountability. She also chose to take advantage of our housing program so she could save money to get her own apartment.
Kim made huge progress! She paid off seven loans and freed up the majority of her income to go toward rent and utilities. She gained confidence in answering the phone and telling lenders NO to their offers for "great deals". She knew the best deal was to improve her credit, open a bank account, and get a loan with low interest if she ever needed one. That's exactly what she did! A bank account was not the only thing she was able to get. She also bought a car and got her own apartment! One year after coming to the Faith & Finance class, Kim's life was headed in a completely new direction.
Over the past 2 years, Kim has continued to make progress. Kim committed her life to Christ and was baptized. She diligently studies her Bible and constantly shares what she has learned with others. She still lives in her apartment. She was able to get a loan from the bank to buy a newer model vehicle with fewer issues. Kim still attends classes with the Bridge and is now a mentor (Ally) in our Faith & Finances classes. She helps others have hope that they can get their financial issues in order. Kim is a great mentor for the women coming through our program and she is always willing to help. She is a great example of what a woman can do when they improve their relationships with God, self, other people, and their money!
Kim is a great writer and teacher and she plans to help teach a life skills class for us in 2025. We are so proud of Kim's progress and even more happy that she has stuck around to help us! The world needs more Kims!
